Trip Overview

Dhaulagiri base camp trekking tour required three weeks holidays but we Himalaya Journey trekking arrange as per trekkers wish and holiday schedule.

Dhaulagiri Base Camp Trekking is an extreme off the beaten track that takes you to one of the wildest and remotest areas of Himalayas. It offers the real feeling of adventure with every bit of roughness, altitude, and chilling cold; the trekkers of Dhaulagiri have every right to boast about their achievement against the fellow trekkers of other trekking circuit areas.

Unlike other trekking, the trekking days are very limited and expensive comparatively. You will get two days for acclimatization and to get adjusted to the environment. And there is no option of teahouse stays on this route – you will have to sleep in tents within the camps and for few days you will be sleeping on the glacier or on snowy floors. You are required to limber up few months prior and come into great physical shape before going on this journey. It is cold and very tiring. High altitude trekking experience is also a must. You will need to wear gaiters and carry an ice-ax with you for at least three days of this trek.

You will start the journey from Beni and follow the curves of Myagdi river, to Darbang, Muri, Chariban villages with terraced fields below the great view of Dhaulagiri ridge, Italian base camp, Dhaulagiri base camp, to French pass (5,360 m) Dhumpus pass (5,234 m) and finally descend to Jomsom to reach at Marpha assemble of Annapurna circuit trekking trail. The major accomplishment of Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek is the title of bragging rights of crossing two high mountain-passes namely French pass (5,360 m) and Dhampus pass (5,234 m). Addition to this, you will be able to closely observe the natural wealth and heritages – unexplored landscape, unspoiled resources and beyond imagination art of mountains. The people that live in this remote area are an inspiration in themselves. The lifestyle they live and their unique culture that they have been treasuring since long is beautiful and adorable.

Since Dhaulagiri trekking trail has been explored Himalaya Journey trekking professional offers according to clients desire and trekking itinerary will generate with appropriate their holidays in Nepal. Detailed Itinerary

Upon landing at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM), you'll be greeted by a representative, assisted with your visa-on-arrival if needed, and transferred to your hotel by private vehicle.

The drive to the hotel is an immediate immersion into Kathmandu's vibrant, chaotic energy. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner at a traditional Nepali restaurant. This is a crucial meeting where you'll be introduced to your guide and trekking crew (porters, cook). They will brief you on the days ahead, check your gear, and answer initial questions.

Accommodation:Tourist-standard hotel in Kathmandu.

Morning is for final gear shopping/renting, obtaining permits (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit, Dhaulagiri Special Permit), and exchanging currency.

A guided half-day sightseeing tour takes you to UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You might visit the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath (observe rituals on the Bagmati River) and the colossal Buddhist stupa of Boudhanath (absorb the peaceful atmosphere as pilgrims circle the dome). The afternoon is for final packing.

You'll take a regular tourist bus or a more comfortable private Jeep. The road follows the Trishuli and Marsyangdi rivers before turning towards the Kali Gandaki valley.

This drive offers a visual transition from the urban landscape to the lush, terraced hills of the Middle Hills. Beni is a bustling town at the confluence of the Kali Gandaki and Myagdi rivers, marking the traditional start of the Dhaulagiri trek.

Duration:5-6 hours
Accommodation:Basic teahouse/lodge in Beni

The road becomes rougher and narrower. A 4WD Jeep is highly recommended for this section.

This shorter drive allows the adventure to sink in. You'll see the landscape begin to change as you climb steadily out of Beni. Darbang is a large village and the last major stop before the trek truly goes remote.

Duration:3-4 hours
Accommodation:Basic teahouse/lodge in Darbang

The trail officially begins, crossing suspension bridges over the Myagdi Khola and passing through several Magar and Gurung villages.

A day of steady ascent through beautiful rhododendron and oak forests, with glimpses of terraced farmland. This is a great introduction to the rhythm of trekking days.

Of course gradual climbing and every days experiences will more different for your altitude gaining.  (If you hire private 4w Jeep then we can drive direct from Beni to Muri now)

Duration:6-7 hours
Accommodation:Basic teahouse

The trail continues to climb alongside the Myagdi Khola, moving deeper into the valley.

The villages become sparser, and the sense of remoteness grows. You'll pass through pine forests and open pastures. Keep an eye out for waterfalls cascading down the valley walls.

Duration:6-7 hours
Accommodation:Basic teahouse

A shorter day as you gain significant altitude.

The vegetation starts to thin out, offering the first proper views of the Dhaulagiri massif on a clear day. The air gets noticeably cooler.

Duration:5-6 hours
Accommodation:Basic teahouse

The trail becomes more rugged as you enter the higher alpine zone. You are now above the tree line. The landscape is dominated by rocky moraines, and the views of the surrounding peaks become increasingly dramatic. Proper acclimatization is critical from this point onward.

Accommodation:Basic teahouse

This is a challenging day walking on the lateral moraine of the Dhaulagiri glacier.

The terrain is uneven and rocky. The sheer scale of the Dhaulagiri range becomes overwhelming. The camp is set in a stark, beautiful, and rocky landscape near the glacier.

Accommodation:Camping (Tented Camp)

You will now walk on the Dhaulagiri Glacier itself. This requires careful footing.

A surreal and awe-inspiring day. You are surrounded by a sea of ice and some of the highest peaks on Earth. The base camp is a dramatic, rocky area directly beneath the north face of Dhaulagiri. The altitude will be strongly felt.

Duration:5-6 hours
Accommodation:Camping (Tented Camp)

This is very high altitude acclimatize day for you and some time it can be hard because of feeling headache and less sleepy. Hard to eat and breath makes more harder as usual.

Today, We are trekking harder and longer. We have to start our trek early in the morning. We will have pack lunch and we make ready before going to sleep.

Another long and demanding day crossing the Thapa Pass (Dhampus Pass). The descent from the pass is long and can be rough on the knees, but it leads you out of the remote Dhaulagiri section and back towards the more populated Kali Gandaki valley.

A long but mostly downhill walk through alpine meadows and then into the dramatic, wide Kali Gandaki valley, the world's deepest gorge.

Marpha is a famous and charming Thakali village, known for its clean, flagstone-paved streets, whitewashed houses, and apple orchards. Celebrate your success with some locally made apple brandy (Aila) or apple pie.

This is drive day from Marpha to Tatopani by local vehicle and we will enjoy and take bath with natural hot spring pool.

A long, steep climb up stone steps through beautiful rhododendron forests (which would be spectacular in bloom during spring). You are now back on the classic Annapurna Circuit route. Ghorepani is a bustling trekking hub with excellent lodges and shops.

One of the best viewpoint center of Annapurna region trekking including all Himalayan ranges with wonderful sunrise views. This is hiking before your breakfast and it takes about 45 minutes hikes from your tea house.

After breakfast trek down to Hille and catch your regular vehicle or private car or Jeep to Pokhara.

Note: Trekking itinerary can be changed as per different situation, time duration, and client interest. Your rest of days you can explore in Kathmandu valley sights trip.
