Gokyo Lake is situated in the Gokyo Valley at an altitude of 4800m. A collection of six major freshwater lakes, considered to be the highest located freshwater lakes in the world, it lies near the Gokyo Village. The pristine waters of Gokyo Lake shining in hues of turquoise as sunlight bounces off it, against the backdrop of barren hills and the magnificent Gokyo Ri mountain, is an experience that draws many from in and out of the country. These lakes hold certain religious sentiments to both Hindus and Buddhists, and thus revered by people of both religions.

Gokyo Lake Trek will start at the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu where you will explore a few of its cultural landmarks including Pashupatinath and Boudhanath before moving on to Lukla. The flight to Lukla is incredibly scenic, as you can get a glimpse of the mighty Himalayas in all their glory. Your trek will take you forth to villages such as Namche Bazaar, which is majorly inhabited by the Sherpa community of Nepal and provides you with magnificent views of Everest, Thamserku, and Kongde Ri. As you trek forward through forests of oak and rhododendron, you will come across several other villages like Dole and Machermo which gives you stunning views of Cho-Oyu and Thamserku.

  • Day 02: Fly to Lukla (2800m) and trek to Phakding (2652m). 3 - 4 hrs walk.
  • Day 03: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440m). 5 - 6 hrs walk.
  • Day 04: Rest Day at Namche Bazaar.
  • Day 05: Trek to Dole (4040m).
  • Day 06: Trek to Machharmo (4407m).
  • Day 07: Trek to Gokyo (4800m).
  • Day 08: Hike up to Gokyo Ri (5483m) and back to Gokyo and rest.
  • Day 09: Trek down to Dole.
  • Day 10: Trek down to Namche Bazaar.
  • Day 11: Trek to Lukla.
  • Day 12: Fly back to Kathmandu.

Detailed Itinerary

You will arrive at the capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu through the only international airport of the country, Tribhuvan International Airport. Our representatives will aid you in your transfer to the hotel. Located at an altitude of 1350m inside a valley, Kathmandu possesses a perfect blend of culture with modernity. This city boasts a wide variety of cultural heritages including the Hindu temple of Pashupatinath as well as the Buddhist stupas of Boudhanath and Swayambhunath.

From Kathmandu, you will take a short flight to Lukla. The 35 minutes of the flight is exciting as you get a glimpse of the Himalayan ranges along with hills and rivers below. Lukla is a popular tourist destination for those bound towards Everest. From Lukla, you will trek onwards to the Dudh Koshi River Valley to reach the village of Phakding. Overnight in Phakding.

You will take a trail from Phakding to reach the famous Namche Bazaar. The village of Namche is located on the side of a terraced hill and offers you some of the best views of Everest, Kongde Ri, and Thamserku. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.

You will spend a day resting and getting used to the climate at the altitude of 3440m. Namche is mostly inhabited by the Sherpa community of Nepal, so you can get a glimpse of their lifestyle and culture. The marketplace is a great place to visit which displays souvenirs and local goods. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.

From Namche Bazaar, you will trek onwards to reach the village of Dole, located at an altitude of 4040m. This trail will lead you through dense forests of oak and rhododendron which are common flora amongst this region. The village of Dole offers you incredible views of Cho-Oyu, one of the highest mountains in the world. Overnight in Dole.

You will trek towards Machharmo from Dole. The village draws its name from Machharmo Peak whose stunning views can be witnessed from the village, including other mountains such as Cho-Oyu and Thamserku. The trail will once again take you through hilly paths lined up with rhododendron trees which look beautiful when in bloom. Overnight in Machharmo.

From Machharmo, you will trek onwards to Gokyo. Gokyo village lies in the Gokyo Valley, alongside the beautiful Gokyo Lake. Located at an altitude of 4800m, this village is considered to be amongst one of the highest settlements in the world. From Gokyo, not only will you witness the pristine beauty of Gokyo Lake shimmering in the sunlight, you will also see magnificent views of Gokyo Ri against the backdrop of a blue sky. Overnight in Gokyo.

You will hike up to the peak of Gokyo Ri from Gokyo village. From the altitude of 5483m, you can witness the entire valley of Gokyo below you along with Gokyo Lake and Dudh Pokhari. Also, you will witness breathtaking views of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse and other surrounding mountains which is a once in a lifetime view for sure. You will trek back to the Gokyo village and rest, as you cherish your recent trek. Overnight in Gokyo.

You will trek back to the village of Dole via Machharmo. Once again, you will trek through dense forests of oak and rhododendron. You will also witness the beautiful views of Cho-Oyu and Thamserku. Overnight in Dole.

From Dole, you will trek back to Namche Bazaar. With the views of Everest, Thamserku and Kongde Ri in the background, you can choose to explore the village further. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.

You will trek back to the town of Lukla from Namche. You can choose to explore the several cafes that cater to tourists which are ideal for having peaceful, serene time with the view of hills. Overnight in Lukla.

You will take a flight back to the capital city, Kathmandu from Lukla. On your flight, you will get one last glimpse of the Himalayas that you experienced up-close on your trek. Once in Kathmandu, you can explore the lifestyle and cuisine of the beautiful city. Overnight in Kathmandu.
