There are different natural spots for rock climbing in Kathmandu, Bimal Nagar, and Everest region. Each of these rock climbing spots has different levels of routes for the novice and the expert. Ranging from Grade 4A to 7A+, you can choose your route depending on your expertise.

There are different levels of rock climbing which requires different techniques for the successful attempt. Depending upon your level of expertise, you can climb the route of your choice. There are some easy routes for the novice as well as some technically difficult routes for the professionals.

This rock climbing can last up to 3 to 4 hours, or a day or two, depending upon your physical fitness as well as distance from the valley. You can also get proper training from a certified guide to becoming professional climbers.

Rock Climbing Areas in Nepal

1: Nagarjuna Forest

It is one of the closest rock climbing spots here in Kathmandu. It takes about 30 minutes of drive to reach into the deep Nagarjun forest. Get a permit for climbing prior to going there and enjoy the climbing. There are different routes set from grade 4A to 7A+ with some difficult overhang. It is located deep in the forest, so indulge yourself in the beauty of nature and make use of your climbing skills. From rookie to expert, there are routes for all. You can spend your whole day climbing different routes.

2: Hattiban Rock Climbing

It is located towards the west of the valley and it will take about an hour to reach there. You will have to walk for about 20 minutes to reach the climbing site. There are different levels of climbing routes ranging from 4A to7A. It is a perfect place for those climbers who want to test and enhance their climbing skills. This quiet and peaceful environment is a perfect place to relax for a day. Hike a little up to reach Champadevi from where you will get a view of the Kathmandu valley.

3: Bimal Nagar Rock Climbing

Located en route to Pokhara, this Bimal Nagar rock climbing spot is located towards the west of the country. It will take about 5 hours to reach there. You can do overnight stay here if you are traveling to Pokhara. It is about 160 km from Kathmandu and about 40 km from Pokhara. Though there are few fixed routes, this site is perfect for moderate to advanced level climbers.

With the help of an expert guide, you can successfully climb the beautiful rock. Roaring Marsayangdi River and the view of Mt. Manaslu (8156m) can be seen during rock climbing. After climbing you can hike up to the Siddha Gufa (cave) or hike all the way up to the beautiful Newari settlement in Bandipur.

4: Astrek Wall Climbing

Astrek Wall Climbing is located in Thamel. It is one of the oldest and most popular wall climbing spots here in Kathmandu. It is an artificial indoor wall climbing spot where different holds are arranged for different levels of climbers. They also have a bouldering wall with different holds. You can bring your own climbing gears or you can hire climbing gears here too. They also have expertise in guiding you during the climbing. There are about 20 different routes, so depending on your skill level, you can choose the route and start climbing.

5: Namche Bazaar Rock Climbing

If you are trekking in the Everest region and you are in Namche for acclimatization, the best option for you will be to hike up to Syangboche. There you will get to practice some of your bouldering and climbing skills on natural rocks. There are more than 10 routes of different levels from 4C to 7C.
Stretch your arms, legs, and bodies, and prepare yourself for rock climbing.
